We often get told that The Roman Catholic Church is 2000 yrs old Or that Christianity was responsible for all the advances in science we have today Me - I am not sure that either claim is true. I would point out the following 1) The Catholic Church was formed in 1054 - same tie as the Eastern Orthodox Church Before then we had the Early Christian Church. You may want to argue that the ECC was a corrupt and fallen body - but it was they who selected the books that went into the Bible you use. As far as the links to science and Christianity- it is mere coincidence. Most of the Great Scientists just happened to be Christians for the same reason that they also happened to be white and happened to be male. The real push for science came from Europe, where small and warring kingdoms sought any advantage they could over each other in military or trade concerns. Christianity merely allowed them to get on with it. It was not the driving force behind discovery and exploration
