We wanted to upload a picture and thought a quick update was in order. The picture is Picard standing up for the first time. He was transferred to a new hospital yesterday, Select Specialty. They specialize in wound healing. While he was at Mercy they helped alot with his therapy which is where the picture is from. They also got him off the ventilator and breathing on his own, however he went backwards with his skin which he is now missing skin from 15% of his body, mainy his back, bottom and entire right side of his chest, he actually lost weight and is now down to 98 lbs and his swallow regressed back to where cant eat. Select intends to get his skin healing, his trache removed and get him to eating as well as continuing his rehabilitation. The pain is intense but so are his efforts. He continues to work hard every day and stays focused. His sense of humor is returning as well. The other day during dressing change while he was on his side and the nurse was behind him working on his back, she rested her hand on his bottom. He asked who was touching him there and when she said oh, it was her, he said, well you havent even taken me to dinner yet. Today he asked if he could have some ice chips. (All he can have right now is water on a sponge.) I told him he wasnt cleared for ice chips yet, which he knows. He said, thats fine, just bring me a quesadilla. Another really great thing is he had 4 friends from Arkansas come and visit him and spend the afternoon with him. He had a great time and it was really good for him spending time with someone other than just us and medical staff. It lifted his spirits, helped him feel less alone and we thank them for that. When Rodney walked in Picard asked what are you doing here? Rodney said Im here to visit you and Picards next words were, dude, Ive been so bored. He has really appreciated the cards, letters and gifts as they too have had the same uplifting effect, but a personal visit and time spent with someone just there to visit meant the world to him. He still has a long hard road ahead but hes still fighting, to heal, to eat, to walk, to come home. Our family thanks you all for your continued prayers. His incredible strength comes from God and we appreciate everyone keeping Picards name in his ear.
