Week One has passed and is now behind us. Brother not only - TopicsExpress

Week One has passed and is now behind us. Brother not only survived, he is just now beginning to thrive. Alert, bright eyes greet us with his soft nickers at every 2 hour feeding. Volunteers remain vigil everyday and carefully check his vital signs for any sign of impending distress or changes. He seems to be rallying. But were not ready to exhale just yet... Our vet, Dr Katherine Szabo, rechecked Brothers body carefully on Friday. His heart murmur is less which means the high protein feedings are healing the vital heart muscle. The panel is mostly in the norms but showing anemia most likely from the strongyle blood worm infestation. The worms will be medicated in another 3 weeks to leave his body. Then his health will show much larger strides in improvement without groceries going to the worms, too. But for right now, as Dr Szabo stated we still have to feed those darned worms! until Brother strengthens. The first month is the critical stage during the re-feeding period. If his condition worsens, it will most likely happen in the first month. Thats why we are not out of the woods. But we are cautiously optimistic and pulling hard for Brothers recovery. All volunteers are working towards Brothers daily needs and giving him the best possible chance of recovery. Careful management and eagle eyes to every nuance of his delicate condition. Thank you TRULY for your compassionate support to rally around this great horse with the WILL to live! In fact, his rescuer, Lisa Ball, has given him an additional name...Brother WILL. For the willpower he has to survive and thrive. He has won ALL our hearts. Hes a big snuggler and likes to cozy right into every persons chest and just hang there. And so we all press onward....
