Weekly Parish e-news 7-7-2014 Dear Beloved of God, See note entitled Paradigm Shift for thoughts on Sundays scripture lessons. PASTORS WELLNESS I am away from the computer and phone this week, July 7-14. I am taking a silent retreat for part of this time. I ask for your prayers. NATIONAL ASSEMBLY National Assembly is October 9-12. Each diocese has 3 representatives: 1 clergy and 2 laity. That ratio underscores the importance of lay voices in your church. The DC diocese has yet to be represented by laity at any National Assembly. Please consider volunteering to be a delegate. The Old Catholic Church, Province of the United States, is a communion of churches bound to one another in covenantal relationship. If we do not fully participate in the life of the national church, we do not fully participate in covenant. Remember, any member of a TOCCUSA parish may attend, and all who participate have a voice at National Assembly. If consensus cannot be reached at any business meeting, it is then that the delegates are called upon to vote - which has only happened once. As of yet, I have had 2 inquiries, but no commitments. CALENDAR July 7-14 - Pastors retreat; evening vespers Sunday, July 13 Aug 3 - First Sunday Dinner out with the pastor Aug 17 - parish meeting (after our monthly potluck) Sept 7 - First Sunday Dinner out with the pastor (at the request of Levi, we will meet at Smash Burger in Seneca Meadows Shopping Center) Sept 14 - annual ice cream social Recurring events: First Sunday Dinner Out - join Mother Linda for dinner out at a Germantown restaurant after mass on the first Sunday of the month. Bring your theological, biblical, or liturgical questions for discussion and sharing. ***If you cannot afford a meal out and wish to participate, please speak with Mother Linda in confidence.*** Anointing of the sick is offered the second Sunday of each month. Community potluck dinner is every third Sunday of the month after mass. You are ALWAYS invited to potluck, whether you can make it to mass or not. Food and fellowship are always a holy thing. Hymn-sing back by popular demand! On the fourth Sunday of the month throughout the Sundays after Pentecost, we will sing only your suggestions. So scour those hymnals for your favorites and bring suggestions. Please bring copies for the community and musician(s) if the hymns are not found in the ELW (the red hymnal), Breaking Bread (the softcover hymnal), or Pilgrim Hymnal (the brown hardcover hymnal that belongs to Dayspring, stacked on the piano).
