Weight defined in fat loss terms comes down to lean mass and fat. Everyone focuses on the fat loss part but for most people a life of building muscle is the better answer. Simply put if your body needs a specific amount of food the old 2000 for maintenance and 1200 to diet wont cut it. For most people 2000 calories IS under eating. If your body needs 2612 calories and you are eating close to 2000 calories you arent building muscle and if you do that for life your body will hold onto as much fat as possible. Similarly a calorie is not just a calorie when you dont get specific. If you chronically under eat protein (most people do) AND under eat calories you are basically setting up the best case scenario for fat accumulation. You can lift all the weights you want, in the beginning you will be fine but your body adapts to that soon. If you are past 6 months and not progressing like you think you should getting specific might be the answer.
