Well today I go a good ole lesson from out of nowhere. Thats usually where they tend to come from. I got to spend a day walking a mile in my dialysis patients shoes. LITERALLY I walked a mile around Wal-mart. In case some of you dont know, I work with people who have Kidney Failure. This means they have to eat a special (unforgiving) diet. Its part of my job to educate them (relentlessly it seems) about said diet to help them stay healthy and prevent further medical conditions from occurring. And admittedly sometimes I get frustrated bc based on the labs I can tell that they are NOT eating like they should. So this month in honor of Kidney Dz Awareness and National Nutrition Month, I am doing sample day each Friday using recipes from Davita that are renal/diabetic friendly. And let me say I have a whole new respect for the patients who dont and even more for those who do follow this diet. I spent 90 mins in the store searching for ingredient for 2 (yeah just 2) recipes. And on top of that the prices for some of these item were OUTRAGEOUS!! For Heavens sake most of my folks are on a limited income! So even though I HAVE to educate them as part of my job, I will be more understanding when they are struggling with it even after my 20th speech LOL. Bc I only did it for one day and Im mentally and physically tired. So when you lay down tonight please say a lil prayer for my dialysis family. They are SO special to me and they have SO much to deal with. Thanks so much.
