Went to Montreal and Quebec City this week. Got stopped and searched at the border on the way in and on the way out (held for an hour on the American side). But for a story of redemption... Last time we went up there in February we got whoopee pies in Skowhegan, but as we were being rung up the power went out. Not a hundred miles later did we realize in dismay that we had left the whoopee pies there in the confusion! This time we went through Skowhegan and stopped at the same place, hoping to recover from our bitter disappointment seven months before. Not five seconds into recounting our February debacle did the counter person exclaim that of course she remembered us, that she had felt awful for us when we forgot them, and hurried over to give us two free whoopee pies! Police state or no, there is good in the world!
