What an awesome project idea for the kids! I am seriously thinking of emailing one of the people mentioned and inviting her to go for coffee. Pro-coyote and pro-coexistence education beginning in childhood! Great counter to the anti-wildlife mindsets so many people are indoctrinated with by their parents & rural culture (i.e. "coyotes are pests, we need to get rid of them"). I quote: “It’s one of those misunderstood creatures, so people want to learn more about them. There is a little bit of mystery about them,” Harder says. Instead of a lecture, children will play a game where they pretend to be coyotes looking for food and water as staff start to restrict their “habitat” with a rope. “We ask them how they feel. As it got smaller, was it easier or harder to move around without interacting with another coyote? At the end of the game we ask them, ‘In real life, what could they do?” In the past, daytime school groups have suggested re-naturalizing urban spaces, and writing letters to politicians about habitat restoration. “It really makes quite an impact in a short period of time,” Harder says.
