What our Conscious Mind does and knows is actually rather limited. What we call our conscious mind is the Story Teller, the maker up of stories to describe what our REAL consciousness is doing. The explanation of our spiritual feelings and all other feelings is woven into a story that agrees culturally with our local community. This is not trival nor does it relieve one of the responsibility for our actions of the REAL conscious mind yet we give the FAKE conscious mind all sorts of powers it really does not have. What we call our conscious mind - really our fake conscious mind - has ZERO emotions, none nix never NO emotions yet it can play with the REAL conscious mind and that is the only way it feels anything. When the nerve cells of the retina traverse back to the occipital lobes they first cross at the Optic Chiasm and from that crossing comes the crossing over of the field of visions of both eyes, one side of the field of vision to the opposite side of the brain. Later on in the pruning process there will be layers on each lobe of left eye,right eye in an alternating layer fashion and this is where optical depth perception originates at the sense level. BUT THERE IS ANOTHER PATHWAY, that runs from the Chiasm up to the brain directly and we will NEVER have access in a conscious way - the FAKE conscious mind im talking about now - and yet that information is part of our REAL conscious brain, the part that works with and generates all our feelings of hate, love, comfort, friendship, enemies, EVERYTHING that involves feelings which the Fake Conscious mind thinks it is responsible for. We are more then one creature - related creature for sure - in the same body and part is the real conscious self we dismiss so often and which we share with all other creatures and the FAKE part that makes up the fictional stories of our gods and our devils and our countries and everything our fake conscious minds so uses to divide up the world.
