What truly aggravates me is when individuals disregard the necessity of accountability from elected officials because of friendship and loyalty, regardless if there is evidence of corruption. As I watched the news, the majority if not all individuals interviewed by channel 7 news agreed that Jackson Jr. and his wife should have gotten stiffer sentences. They made very good and valid points. Regardless who you are, if you are entrusted with the trust and confidence of the people you serve, the people who voted you into office, the people who have the utmost honor and admiration for you and your ideology of government, the same people who placed you on a high pedestal to ensure their visibility of your transparency without distortion or misunderstanding, you are expected to perform for them with maximum accountability, not yourself. When Jesse Jr. lowered himself down from that pedestal, transparency could no longer be viewed by the people. Loyalty and friendship is what allowed Jesse Jr. to lower himself without questions being asked. His actions were no longer transparent. Jesse Junior and his wife should have gotten the maximum sentences without a doubt. When the court showed mercy, they sent a strong and confusing message to potentially corrupt lawmakers and other politicians that there are certain people who are exempt from the harsh realities of the judicial system.
