When I was in LA I went to Venice Beach to visit Andy Kravitz at his studio. I originally went there to check out a Rogers kit he was selling. When I got there I got gob smacked!!! Whos Andy Kravitz? Well he is a drummer, producer, engineer with a resume that will blow you away! You have already heard his work you just didnt know it. Look his discography up! He has worked with (including playing drums for some of them in the studio) people like Sting, The Rolling Stones, Joan Osborne, Cypress Hill, Tribe called Quest, Kris Kross, Juliana Hatfield, Billy Joel etc etc. The Studio is about 200m from the beach. Yep Venice Beach. The vibe is ridiculous. Andy owns not one but 2 Neve consoles, vintage mics (inc one from Abby Rd) and so many amazing instruments. Studio A has the bigger console and a grand piano etc where majority of a recording is done and studio B is across the road in the basement of Charlie Chaplins old hotel which boasts the other Neve desk and a tape machine (which is where drums are done). We were about to walk into the drum room and Andy paused at the door, looked me in the eye and said.... I gotta tell you why Im selling the Rogers Greg.... Why I asked? Because I have one of Jeff Porcaros kits now, then he opened the door to an old Gretsch kit!! I felt like hed just opened the door to heaven! Andy showed me both some stuff hed done with the Rolling Stones and some new stuff he was working on.... Ive worked on 200+ records myself but I stood there overwhelmed by how rich the tracks sounded. I believe all the best records have been done in great settings or great moods were set at the time. For anyone considering those factors this would be worth the extra plane flight costs to Andy! Its at Venice beach!! Not only would your band lift to the next level by being groomed by one of the worlds best but you would go home with a tan. The studio is unbelievable! Anyone seriously considering this contact us and we can help make it happen. The studio can sort accom and all other needs its just an extra plane flight and in my opinion well worth it. It would be an experience of a lifetime! The little sparkle red Rogers kit that I bought from Andy is now at Cartel in our hire dept. From Venice Beach to Cartel. We have named the kit Hank Moody because when I left Andys I thought I wonder where Hanks place (on the TV show Californication) is from here? Its was right around the block!
