When people live to please the LORD, even their enemies will be at peace with them.Proverbs 16:7 Meditation A look at the parade of kings described in the Old Testament can leave you feeling disconcerted. Few are identified as rulers who pleased God. One exception, though, was Asa. He “did what the LORD his God said was good and right. He took away the altars of the foreigners and the high places. He also smashed the memorial stones and cut down the Asherah poles. He commanded the people of Judah to follow the LORD, the God their ancestors had worshiped, and to obey his laws and commands.” (2 Chronicles 14:2-4 ERV). What was the result? The kingdom enjoyed a long stretch of peace from its enemies. “Asa built strong cities in Judah while there was peace in Judah. He had no war in these years because the LORD gave him peace.” (2 Chronicles 14:6 ERV). In your life’s battles with circumstances or even with others, your staunch obedience to God can bring you peace as well. It may not last forever, but the Lord will use it to encourage and strengthen you for whatever He knows the future holds. Do what pleases the Lord. Rest in Him. Prayer God, help me to be a child of God who obeys You as my Heavenly Father. Let me bring pleasure to You through my thoughts and deeds. I appreciate Your peace. Amen.
