When we someone had died, some utter "Al-Fatihah". This is unheard of during the time of the Prophet(salallahu alayhi wasallam) which means, it is not part of the Sunnah. What is being uttered when a calamity strikes such as death, we utter "Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi rajioon." which means that "to Allah we come from and to Him we shall return." Allah said in the Quran: Quran 2:155-157 "And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient, Who, when disaster strikes them, say, "Indeed we belong to Allah , and indeed to Him we will return." Those are the ones upon whom are blessings from their Lord and mercy. And it is those who are the [rightly] guided."
