When’s the best time to eat apples and how do you know they haven’t been stored for up to a year in an artificial atmosphere in a large coolstore? Local apples are harvested from January through to mid winter depending on the variety. So if you want apples to be fresh picked, anything you eat from now until January would have been in a coldstore no matter where you buy it. Fresh picked apples are available in the first 6 months of the year. The question then is, for how long have they been stored?
