While everyone may have had a wonderful year, as is evident from these posts going up on facebook (in Pakistan), I dont think any wonderful moments this year can even come close to overcoming the huge tragedy this country suffered last week. Im sorry if Im offending people, but Im already seeing the shift from anger and sorrow to indifference or attempts to forget the horror at least, and I understand that feeling. While facebook & social media arent indicators of any real action, it still is a big platform for all of us to raise our voice. Its such a unique chance for us to reclaim our country back from extremists, and weve let slip so many chances like these before. Please, please dont forget, and dont let this chance pass. If we cant be part of any real action, at least make sure that we keep our protests alive on this media. At least support those who are endangering their lives for us to publicly raise their voices against extremists. Hope and resilience is important, and its good to move on -- thats whats kept this country alive & going for decades of violence, but sometimes its important to seize the moment, and in my heart I feel that this is one of those moments. My utmost respect to the Christian community whove decided to scale down their Christmas celebrations in Pakistan, and to the Indian community whove led so many protests in their country too. And Im sorry that they never got the same response from the wider community here when the Peshawar church was bombed last year, and when terrorists attacked Mumbai. May we learn from this tragic event, and may we understand and recognize who the real enemy is. Via Mehr Zahra
