While this day winds down the stress of being a Jew in this world has only increased. There are those who would sooner see my people dead and gone than have any place on earth. There are others who would feel better about themselves, for some reasons, if we were left without a homeland. Weve learned about anti-Antisemitism/anti-Israel sentiment since we were children. But the movies, the books and the trips to memorials were intellectual and we managed to feel safe, at least somewhat. Than these wars come along every few years because of Jihadi aggression, and vial words and threats pour out of nasty peoples minds, so much so that they seem to have nothing to do with our war on Gaza. And we feel unsafe for ourselves, and we feel unsafe for our children because we know given the opportunity many of these people would be fine in a world without Jews. With all of this, there is not a Jew I know who doesnt feel great compassion for the Palestinian people, particularly the children. Every conversation I have with family, friends and colleagues ends in, if they would only lay down their arms and stop calling for our destruction. We cringe too when bombs drop.We close our eyes in fear and acute discomfort knowing that Gaza is an awful place to be, particularly if you have children. But we willl not lay down and the vast majority of us continue to support the Israeli government and IDF knowing that this war is the only possibility for peace; that Hamas needs to be isolated and the Palestinian people must have the chance to find honest leadership who have their interest at harms. So to those who would prefer to see the Jew docile, that will no longer happen. To those who want us to lay down our arms, we respond, have you had jihadis as neighbors? Its not pretty and youd have to be very naive to consider what would happen in the region if we allowed the enemy to have the edge. Israel is fighting a war that will one day belong to many more nations.We dove in first because this fight had to happen and its burning up Israels doorstep. ISIS, Iran with Nukes, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad and the plethora of other Shiite and Sunni Jihadi groups will push forward as long as nobody pushes back, as long as the world tries to placate them. So kol havod to our homeland, Israel. Many of us stand behind you, despite the fact the world has become scarier for us and we will continue to. Am yisrael chai. The Nation of Israel lives. May God watch over all innocence, and return us to a Garden of Eden.
