Who knew there were gobs of research on how to get farm animals to cope with their lot in life with negative reinforcement. Tussles and such apparently ruin the meat after slaughter and decrease milk production. Who knew that there was so much research in maximizing profits in agriculture through stress reduction. (Those stress hormones affect taste and texture of meat.) It doesnt mean I want my dogs to be treated like farm animals in meat production. Heck, I am not vegan. But I go out of my way to buy product from animals that have access to pastures and free-roaming. Perhaps in a farm scenario the goal is behavioural suppression. Dont fight - despite crowds - dont bruise the meat - let the vets handle the animal fast and move on. Not my dogs. No - not my dogs. My dogs need more than lack of negative experiences if I am to feel that they have an enriched life. I want them to have a life full of behavioural diversity, fun, experiences.
