Why does circumcision continue in the United States? Just look at these estimates from over 40 years ago: The cost in dollars of excising 1,287,000 foreskins is substantial. Demetrakopoulos estimated that circumcising 100 percent of the 1,822,910 born in 1971 would have cost 200 million dollars. A lower figure is probably more accurate. With a physicians fee of $25 and an instrument fee of $15 per case, the cost of circumcising 1,287,000 would be approximately 51 million dollars. What must those numbers be in 2014, especially when you factor in that some establishments are selling the tissue for use in the research and cosmetic industries?
