Wife awaits fate Mere Naleba Wednesday, September 18, 2013. A 47-YEAR-OLD woman convicted of assaulting her husband will be sentenced next week after she pleaded guilty to one count of assault. Linieta Wati of Nabuli settlement in Delainavesi appeared before magistrate Makereta Mua yesterday. The court heard that Wati assaulted her husband, Isei Tokarua, 57, after an argument erupted between the two over a mandarin tree that Mr Tokarua had cut down. Police prosecutor Corporal Apenisa Keresoni told the court Mr Tokarua was at home with his step children when Wati returned home and confronted her husband about the tree. The heated argument progressed to the extent where Mr Tokarua demanded that his wife choose between him and her children. The court heard that when Wati told him she chose her children over him, Mr Tokarua moved out of the house with his son, and said he would return to collect his belongings. When Mr Tokarua returned a day later to collect his items, Wati made a scene by throwing their stereo set on the floor before picking up a piece of timber and hitting his right hand. In her police interview, Wati said she was acting in self defence. The case has been adjourned to September 25. fijitimes/story.aspx?id=245875
