With all of the news on the shootings in France, I think its important for folks to be informed (I always think this). While the loss of life is tragic and completely uncalled for, the fact is that Charlie Hebdo provoked - not as satire, but rather as ridicule. Many people would boo-hoo that they lost their lives as an expression of free speech. Guess what folks? Our U.S. Constitution states the following... Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. Note, it doesnt say anything about being able to say whatever you want, whenever you want, to whomever you want WITHOUT consequence. Should the folks at Charlie Hebdo have lost their lives drawing stupid cartoons? No. But did they provoke a group of people who were deeply offended and chose to retaliate? Yes. You can google more, if you wish, but here are a couple of examples of their satire (the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize peoples stupidity or vices, particularly in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues.).
