Words fail to express the care and kindness that the members of SJLC uave shown me since my arrival as interim pastor in June. They so regard the Office of Holy Ministry and are receptive to its gifts. They are a humble and generous and faithful congregation full of wise saints to whom I defer with joy and respect. My life is theirs so long as I serve them. I pray earnestly God double my capacity and strength this year as their servant. The past week I have been terribly ill--sicker than I wanted to admit. Our elders--all devout men--assisted me Sunday and enabled me to perform the Divine Service without complaint. Thank you, brothers...and every woman is a tending sister or mother there who has patiently watched out for my health in place of my own tendency toward neglect in that area. Pleasw forgive me for the distress I may have caused, sisters (I may even start making my bed...no I wont). Anyhow, I am in the debt of Gods people in Christ as St. Johns Lutheran Church--you humble me with your charity and care. Since I belong to you, for your sake I will take greater measures to insure my health and physical well-being (my mind being congenitally smitten with craziness--the good kind). And to that end, I have an appointment tomorrow afternoon with my doctor. I am especially appreciative of the nursing Kristine Olson has provided--she thinks I feel pestered by her regularly exams and questions, I dont. I am too embarrassed to state just how glad you are there, Kris (embarassed only because it reveals how poorly I have managed my health). Okay, Im getting sentimental so I better stop. I just wanted to acknowledge this devotion of SJLC to the ministry in a public way. (And if I ever cant make it into the pulpit, Al Drittler has my permission to spend the sermon regaling the congregation with tales of his life!) Bless you, saints!
