Wow, you just have to laugh. I had an asthma attack a month ago and had to call 911 because I had no idea what was going on. Paramedics came, determined I needed to go to emergency even though I was talking fine, just breathing a bit heavy. I asked them to just give me some kind of inhaler but they said no, for liability sake they NEEDED to transport me to an ER. Whatever. I tell them forget it and the fireman says, well you called 911, so you have to go. Im already freaking out because I know I have the crappy level of healthcare under Obamacare but I did read somewhere that under Obamacare emergency room visits are 100% covered so I think Im ok. So I walk to the stretcher myself, they put me into the ambulance, finally give me an inhaler and I feel MUCH better 2 seconds. They take me roughly 2 miles driving at a snails pace. (that bill came three weeks ago, 1800.00!), then they take me to the most disgusting emergency room on the planet (Saint Mary Medical Center in Long Beach, CA), basically where local drunks are brought to, I pay a 300.00 copay, thinking thats it. Done. To be clear, not ONE Dr. even came over to see me, only ONE nurse put something on my finger to measure my heart rate. I was left alone for a half hour and then released. Done! And side note, while I was there I had to beg for a blanket because it was freezing and not one person even checked on me, they were too busy gossiping and laughing in the other room. Yes, I heard them because Im a writer so Im always listening. Oh wait a minute, someone did visit me, their BILLING person, but not one Dr. !! So just got that bill! 1623.00 is what they charged my insurance, of which I owe 829.61 after they deducted the 300.00 I already paid and the 493.39 insurance discount! FOR WHAT??? PUTTING SOMETHING ON MY FINGER?? SO NO, I WILL NOT BE PAYING ANY OF THESE BILLS. ITS CRAZY. That emergency room was one of the worst places I have ever been, so bad they should have paid me to be there! If I have to go to jail for not paying these friggin outrageous bills then so be it, I just hope some of my friends visit me. I did hear somewhere that orange is the new black! So as a proud Democrat, and wanting to believe in healthcare reform please all tell me how this is a good thing? Basically if the same thing happened to me again I would not call 911, which leads me to wonder how many people are dying right now because they cant afford to pay the bills? What has improved?? It appears to be the same horrible system it was before Obamacare. No? Yes? Use my story as an example and educate me please! I owe over 2,600.00 for nothing! And I have friggin insurance! Single payer!! I will keep saying this until our country wakes up! Whos been down this road and what happens if you dont pay? Would love to know.
