Ydays anticipation for the game at the Stadio Olimpico was reaching boiling point... had Predicted scoreline; 2-2, with Marek Hamšík bagging a late brace. I was bored in school yesterday & went through how I felt the game would transpire to the most specific point. Wow ! Roma 2 - 0 Napoli. That was nothing! with Kevin Strootman, Miralem Pjanić & DDR vs Gökhan Inler & Valon Behrami, in midfield, definitely the most important battle lastnight. Gervinho looked promising to give Napolis defence a few problems. Had to do with an injection of pace, the backline. I was a little bit worried. You could argue that Christian Maggio has the experience & know-how to deal with Gervinho, however #27 got a little bit better of him IMO. Diego Maradona was in attendance lastnight. According to a commentator, James Pallotta invited El Diez to the game. Enjoyed Maggios well practised cynicism exemplified with that rather methodical block on Dodô. Reminiscent of a mediocre New York Giants o-liner. Sure, Gervinhos finish wasnt exactly clinical, however the run to present himself with the opportunity deserves plaudits. Electrifying. I cant describe how much I miss watching Edinson Cavani donning the azzurri of Napoli. Such a joy to watch in Serie A, no matter his form. Hasnt lost his extraordinary talent at Paris Saint-Germain, of course, however its not the same as it was at the San Paolo. Meh. Goran Pandev could have done with a good ol fashioned right hook, courtesy of Daniele De Rossi & friends. Deserved a slice of humble pie, too. Francesco Tottis evening came to a premature end at the thirty third minute mark. Roma obviously felt as if they couldnt take such a risk. Daniele De Rossis goal-line clearance summaried how strong Roma are defensively under Rudi Garcia; almost invincible. Saved the day. Kudos to Morgan De Sanctis, too. Excellent piece of goalkeeping to give DDR the chance to refuse Napoli the lead in the first half. Pivotal moment. From first glance, I felt as if Christian Maggios foul on Gervinho warranted a spot-kick for Roma. Looked a v.positive phase of play. Lorenzo Insigne; cool as a cucumber, but wasn’t potent enough to break the deadlock, seeing his effort harmlessly strike the post. Poor. Miralem Pjanić was magic. Sublime free-kick on the brink of the interval gifted Roma a lead that could prove dividends at full time. Woah. TBH enjoyed the first forty five. End-to-end stuff, throughout. Roma, were the better side. I dont understand people who dont like Serie A. Into 2nd half Napoli were vamping up the pressure in the attacking third. Romas midfield had to tighten up if they werent to squander their slender lead. Napolis travelling contingent had to burst into the strike-like shout, WHAT DO WE WANT? HIGUAÍN! WHEN DO WE WANT HIM? NOW!Thanks for acknowledging the chant then, Rafa. Gonzalos introduction definitely made the remaining twenty minutes, or so, all the more exciting. Paolo Cannavaro had to be the architect of Napolis downfall. At fault for both of Romas goals & on top of it forced Napoli to play with 10 men. Napoli were doing just fine before what could prove to be the final nail in the coffin. Omnipresent pressure on Roma beforehand. Nightmare. Paolo Cannavaro made Miguel Britos look like Fabio Cannavaro, Miguel Britos made Paolo Cannavaro look like Miguel Britos. Its quite difficult to pick flaws in how efficient Roma had been with possession. Rudi Garcias transformed them into a complete machine. Miralem Pjanić caped off a dream week by awarding Roma three points, extending their lead at the top of the table. Napoli, v.disappointing. Everyones least favourite break, the international break, has not been kind to Napoli. Looked lethargic at times. Roma exploited that.
