Yes! Its Tanzania. Just as music, sports speak a universal language. This weekend the Street Children World Cup (SCWC) lighted my joy after Tanzania Boys defeated their Burundi counterparts in the finals of this global event as we wait for the FIFA world cup. At least this makes me want to celebrate for my country, but who else is here to cheer with me? The rest are busy with the English Premier league. None of my friends is even aware of this victory of our homies. SCWC is one of those events that deserved all our media attention, at least after this victory of our boys who spend all their time (and life) in the streets. For unknown reasons, this did not get enough publicity from our local media. May be because there is no selling point in it? I think there is but we are blind enough t see it. Look, this year’s Street Children World Cup addressed issues like homelessness, poverty, the right to education and health. It reminded us all that, all children are born equal and deserve the best and that, it’s just a matter of luck and circumstance that some ended up on the streets. The crap in our media did not see this. They are busy with celeb gossips, who is dating who, who have been caught by cameras exposing their bikinis in the beach, the filthy politicians and all the other nonsense. Our victory doesnt even turn the necks of the local blogosphere. Tho only 19 countries participated in 2014 SCWC, this is really a unique opportunity for these children to engage with others, learn important social skills like communications, adherence to rules and leadership. I’m so proud of these boys. Thumbs up for Tanzania Street Children Sports Academy for organizing all the logistics and providing all professional training. Thumbs up for all the coaches who spotted these unseen talents and bring them to light. Come on media guys. You need to wake up from the slumber.
