Yes, yesterday the 9th of July I was taken to court by the GSPCA. And yes, I plead guilty to *error in judgement* was due to circumstances beyond my control I panicked and made the wrong choice. Some of the rescue dogs and one of my own developed a stomach bug and under veterinary advice I needed to segregate them from the rest of the dogs including a litter born here of sickly pups. As my new kennels were not finished the only place available were the old kennels which had not been used in years and had been flooded in winter. I did not like doing this but given the circumstances I felt I had no other option. This was also the time my old vans engine exploded leaving me without transport, so I cycled to the kennels several times a day to give them water, food and meds (big watertank, barrels with dry food were in situ and I brought the meds with me each time, Synulox and Forti Flora). None of the dogs there were in crates, they were in kennels. They were there for ten days and were due to be moved to the new kennels two days later. On the day I went to collect the new van in Loughrea and went straight on to Athenry Vets to collect animals who had been there, I received a call from a volunteer whom i had asked to go to kennels and check on water etc as it was a hot day, telling me the GSPCA were at the gate and were taken the dogs. NO vet was present, nor was my vet contacted. One year has passed and despite 3 letters by my solicitors as to the welfare and welfare of my dogs I was not informed of it as none of the letters were answered. They also never came to my house to check on my other animals, and if they were so concerned why not? I since have had three surprise inspections by the DVO and County Council Vet none of which produced a negative report. On the contrary I have since taken horses via the CC who otherwise would have been send to the pound. I have had several visits from other rescues since who have asked my assistance, the GSPCA continued to hand out my number to members of the public who have found horses. I have been in rescue for 17 years and have had over 3000 animals pass through my hands, all went on to happy homes, neutered, chipped, vaccinated etc. So almost a year later I stood up in court and plead guilty to error of judgment because I know I made the wrong choice under difficult circumstances. The judge fined me and I quote: a nominal fine of €250 and ordered the return of my dogs. I was not charged with any dead dogs, the dogs were not kept in crates, they were given food, water and meds and I glad the Judge decided in the manner he did. Many dogs arrive here thin and emaciated and you have all seen the recovery they made here and the happy homes they went on to. As to the GSPCA and some of the stuff they put up, this is now in the hands of the solicitor. They have stalked me for years, ever since I quit working for them, have told lies to my volunteers about EGAR holding dogfights etc and now it is time to leave this in the hands of my solicitor. If the condition were as bad as they make out, no sane judge would have ordered the return of my dogs on the contrary he would have banned me from keeping animals. Thank you.
