Yesterday was a very nerve-racking day on the job as my train, - TopicsExpress

Yesterday was a very nerve-racking day on the job as my train, traveling at full speed, nearly hit two cars and a bicyclist at three separate grade crossings. In each case the cars and the bicyclist drove or rode on the opposite side of the median to avoid the already lowered crossing gates in an effort to beat my train. Regrettably, train vs. auto, pedestrian or bicyclist accidents occur far more frequently than you read or hear about. Nearly everyone of my coworkers has been involved with at least one, I have personally been involved with three. The results are nearly always deadly for those struck by a train. Please remember, I cannot swerve to avoid you and it takes a great distance for a train to stop. Be patient. If your normal route to work takes you across train tracks then leave a little earlier to compensate for possible delays. The most important thing to be aware of is that in MANY locations there are multiple main train tracks running side by side. People see one train go by and think its safe to dart out behind it while NEVER giving any consideration to the very real possibility of a second or third train fast approaching on an adjacent track. DO NOT proceed across a grade crossing until the flashing red lights and bells are off! Please have a safe and productive day!
