Yesterday was by far one of the saddest and hardest days of my life. We had to have our little toy poodle, Buddy put to sleep. It was the most heartbreaking thing I have ever had to go through and the tears have flowed abundantly by me and by Jeremy this week knowing what Friday would bring. He was a rescue dog that my daughter Heather found out by our house in Loma Linda(Joplin) Missouri on Easter Sunday 2007.He was very neglected, cold as it was in the teens that day and he was completely blind. My friends from back home know this is a notorious place for those that are lacking a heart, (out by the golf course) to drop off a dog or cat as it is very wooded.Taking care of a completely blind, handicapped dog can be a challenge. We made sure everything stayed in the same place so he would feel secure. Then to our surprise we finally figured out Buddy could detect my masto attacks about 30 mins ahead of time. This gave me time to take benadryl and it could ward off the worst of it and helped me not go into shock. We didnt realize this for a few yrs and finally figured out why he would go crazy with whining, barking, running into furniture, nudging me with his nose, anything to get my attention. Then afterwards he would stay very close to me for a few days just to make sure.He saved me more than we saved him. Without a doubt. He was such a gift and a blessing in many ways. He taught us a LOT about life. He was family. Our little furbaby. Every morning he gave me a Buddy hug and this morning was very difficult when he was not here when I woke up. These little animals sure capture our hearts and become an extension of us. Buddy and I had such a bond as he was a life saver more than once, and he was Jeremys best friend too as Jeremy walked him all the time and right down to his last meal yesterday, Jeremy has had to feed him by hand this last year as his health declined due to kidney failure. We are not sure how old Buddy really is since he was a rescue dog. When we found him the vet estimated between 10 to 14 yrs old and that was in 2007. He was king of our castle and we truly could not have paid thousands of dollars for a better dog.Never chewed up one thing and was very well behaved. He was peaceful, calm, grateful for being rescued and never asked or begged for a thing. He sure didnt like it when Jeremy and I were apart and would anxiously await(pacing back and forth to the door) for the other one to come back, then he would take his little nose and touch my ankle and then Jeremys before he could lay back down and go to sleep. We will miss you like crazy Buddy. We love you Buddy, to the moon and back
