Yesterday was shoulder Saturday. And I drilled them. First off I used a heavier Olympic bar for power cleans into an overhead press. It made a difference. But then I went into four sets of Z presses. These are always a balls to the wall! I have give this mention on this particular lift. The guys at High Performance Fitness, Inc. redubbed this lift the Courtney press. This was/is very humbling. The masterminds behind this? Steve Poniatowski for sure. And Mark Rose! Its humbling to me because these are two of the hardest training members at HPF! It feels good to get the respect of your fellow lifters. Mark is the sickest person I ever had the pleasure to train with. I flipped the 450lbs. tire with him for 10 trips! I refused to use my age as an excuse not to do it. It was fun but it was hell. I loved it. Love Quotes and Sayings Steve is a disciple of the Westside Barbell/Louie Simmons training system. And anybody familiar with Louie Simmons know that it very serious and hardcore training. I do box squats because of Steve! I love to hate to love shoulder day. Next Saturday, I have to find that same bar again. I must conquer this bar. I managed to get four reps out of it. I almost locked out on the press a couple of times, but couldnt deliver. But Ill get it. The best part of training is the part where I debate with myself. Whether to switch a bar to do I or dont I add weight! No matter the outcome, I never take the easy way out. I must challenge myself to do better. And yes, Im still pissed at my doctor! I have three more weeks of this squatting program. Then its on to a new deadlift program. Right now its pause rep deads. The new deadlift program has me doing 20 reps in 4 minutes at 80% of my one rep max! This is a 8 week program. This will not be good! But then again, Ive never taken the easy way when training. If it doesnt challenge me, it cant change me. And Im looking for change. Now what comes after this? I dont know. But one thing is for sure, Ill come up with something. I may end up going behind Steve with the Westside Barbell training program.
