Yesterdays deadline for ObamaCare cant pass without my comment. The greatest problem about rising health care costs is not our societys unhealthyness. The main problem is the formidable monopolistic stranglehold of the Doctors/Hospitals/Big Pharma industrial complex. Dont get me wrong. I dont begrudge anyone or any organization from being successful and well-to-do as long as this is a result of hard work, fair play, and free enterprise. This complex is allowed to fix prices, elminate competition, restrict the supply of medical professionals and has the best well-funded political lobbying effort. What happened to anti-trust laws? (Our Department of Justice led by Eric Holder is a joke.) Until these issues are addressed our society will continue to see annual price increases of 10% to 15% regardless of general inflation. A friend of mine is looking forward to gall bladder surgery. This will be an out-patient procedure. The cost for the day-time facility...$20,000. UNBELIEVABLE!! How does this happen? The third party pay system. The complex starts with providers charging the fee. The insurance company (part of the complex?!) approves the fee and is rewarded accordingly. And the fee is spread among all insurance policy owners who have no say. There is no accountability and no incentive to limit cost. Its very hard to challenge and overcome. We need enforcement of existing laws and other reform. To get healthcare reform we need to reform the work of lobbyists.
