Henry from ‘Super Junior-M’, who debuted as a solo artist in June, has Chinese parents. His father is from Hong Kong and her mother, Taiwan. No wonder he speaks Chinese. Henry’s nationality, however, is Canadian. He was born and raised in Canada. That is why he is good at English, too. This is not the end. He does not have difficulty speaking Korean. He was Henry, the member of ‘Super Junior-M’, the Chinese unit group of ‘Super Junior’. Then why did SM choose Henry? The agency was well aware of his talents in many different areas including music, language, etc. Starcast took a close look at the versatile charms of Henry. ◆ Language – “From English to Thai” Henry is a member of ‘Super Junior-M’, the Chinese unit group of ‘Super Junior’. Henry is good at Mandarin and Cantonese, but his nationality is not Chinese, but Canadian. He was born and raised in the country. He had stayed in Canada until 2007 when he came to Korea after being selected from ‘SM Global Audition in Canada’. His native language is English. Henry speaks Korean and Japanese, too. He frequently visited Japan while staying in Korea for promotion of ‘Super Junior-M’. That is how he learned the two languages. He was able to release a solo album and to do individual activities in Korea since he could speak Korean. He can speak intermediate-level Japanese, too. There are more languages Henry can speak. They are French and Thai. In fact, many Canadians can speak French. Henry is said to be able to speak a little bit of French since he lived in Canada for a long time. He has recently started learning Thai. He can speak a total of six languages after all. ◆ Musical talent – “From piano to songwriting” Henry showed talent in music when he was a child. He learned piano at 5 and violin at 6. Now he has excellent piano and violin skills. He played the piano for the intro part of his solo song ‘Trap’ and he drew attention by playing the electronic violin during promotion of ‘SUJU-M’. Henry has good skills of song and lyrics writing as well. He sang his self-composed song ‘Sick of Love’ at the ‘SUJU-M’ concert in 2010. He wrote ‘All My Heart’ and ‘Andante’ with Lee-teuk, and his solo song ‘Off My Mind’, which were included in the album of ‘SUJU-M’. His interest in music did not stop here. He organized a composer team ‘Noize Bank’. He included the songs created by this team in his solo album. ’1-4-3′ and ‘My Everything’ were written by Noize Bank. ◆ Etc. – “From cooking to popping” The list of charms of Henry goes on. He appeared on Olive Channel’s ‘Master Chef Korea Season 2’ in February and made various kinds of cuisine. He proved his cooking skills through roasted snapper and salmon rolls. It is said that he learned cooking from a chef of a five-star Thai hotel last year. He has as much interest in dancing as in singing. His specialty is popping, a genre of a street dance, where a dancer quickly contract sand relaxes muscles to cause a jerk in the dancer’s body. He actually showed impressive popping moves on many variety shows in China. He is a vocalist in the team, but he is a great dancer as well. When Henry came out as a solo artist, SM Entertainment said, “He is good at singing and dancing. He has talent in instruments such as violin. In addition, he has good songwriting skills. He organized a composer team ‘Noize Bank’ and released songs.
