final draft for your consideration... IDEA what is it it? How is it Ingenious? The Starving Artists’ Gallery Co-op. Provide access to work-space and materials for economically disadvantaged artists and showcase their wares alongside other commercial artists. Art is for many an unattainable ie impractical luxury, both to collect and to create. Donations of time and materials would generate art which the world might miss out upon otherwise. It would be ideal to help aspiring artists strengthen their web-presence and business acumen. How will the idea improve the quality of life in the Pikes Peak region? Providing art, a creative outlet, a strengthened sense of community (one’s potential impact hereupon). Create small revenue streams to the economically disadvantaged hobbyists (writers, painters, sculptors, jewelers, etc .) by enabling them to access materials necessary to bring their visions to life. Creating art which is unique and affordable. Also, litter-clean-up and tree-planting efforts will beautify the city and provided shade and lessen present trends toward urban decay. Brief Outline of Project Plan: The concept is actually gaining momentum as we speak. A local church might have an ideal downtown venue to become featured on the Gallery Walks. Now to fill the venue with art, we must contact more local churches and beseech them to contribute their members’ wares to be displayed and sold. Any donations of art-crafting supplies will also be welcome. Many Religions are represented in this area. Our contact person at the church mentioned her membership in the Pikes Peak Inter-Religious Clergy Alliance, and we will welcome their involvement. Ongoing self-publishing projects are planned. We imagine collections of art, poetry and musings on various subjects specific to each volume: addiction, relationships, redemption etcetera. As for adapting the concept, i am interested to see what types of art and artists can be generated which i have yet to think of. Open work-shop ideas include: 2-D art, sculpting and firing, botany (small terrariums), fabric-crafting... Inevitably people will have their suggestions for workshops (materials available might make it a bit like Iron Chef, ie todays materials are...) And i look forward to indulging the artistic ambitions of oddballs in our community. Materials gathered will largely determine which forms of art will be included (If we obtain AV equipment or what-have-you, someone gets to use it while someone else gets to teach that person their craft.) Risk Factors: 1. Individual or individuals hoarding impulsively misspending resources toward overly extravagant idea. Work within small budget, exercise diplomacy regarding potential Big Deals. Also, buying a kiln for example: utilize Pat Smiths China Studio and offer her prominence as local art-guru/ merchant previously absent from Downtown Gallery map. Saved $. Made a friend. 2. Vandals loiterers general dissidents. Require identification and a reference for use of SAGC material and location access. Felons ok, please no warrants. This concept exists in part to create opportunities for disenfranchised people. 3. Lack of interest and involvement. Make beneficial to most people! How would we use $10,000? Self-publishing. Materials: airbrush. kiln. overhead-projector (for large to-scale projects). materials to paint upon. AV equipment. Sewing materials. Trees to plant at bus-stops if allowable. Small plants & containers for workshop botany-projects. Host open workshops (at local parks, churches etcetera). Conduct service projects: litter clean-ups, tree-planting. Hopefully an initial budget-surplus gaining interest untouched. What other materials will we need? People. Craftspeople willing to donate their time leading workshops on their craft of choice. An ongoing stream of materials (textiles, paper and other mediums) provided by our own initial budget-surplus, revenue generated by awareness-raising events (litter clean-ups, workshops, gallery events, etc.). Publicity: none sought as of press time. Who is leading this project? Mr. Cameron Moore- original starving artist, your author, intends to disavow leadership role to focus on my super-heroism. Wants to go back to school. Ellie-Mae Hughes- Mr.Camerons life-support-system, official Public-Relations Representative of The Indulgent Compulsion and The Starving-Artists Gallery Co-operative. Rev. Marlene Urban-Funk- Liaison at First United Methodist Church, volunteer coordinator at FUMC, member Pikes Peak Interreligious Clergy Alliance. Signed up to bring food. :) Who are Potential collaborators? Artists of every ilk, recruited from every walk of life. People whod like to pass along their craft (writing, sewing, analog recording). How will you know that your project is successful? We will see people enjoying affordable art, as well as clean roadways and bus-stops shaded by trees. Who will benefit most from your idea? People who are enabled to reach an audience or otherwise serve society in spite of past obstacles to being productive in our community. Consumers of art & poetry. Hobbyists with time to mentor emerging artists. People impacted by practical efforts in the community (workshops, clean-ups, artist-image-development-assistance). Young, disabled, otherwise disadvantaged artist-entrepreneurs. What excites you most about the impact this idea will have? Knowing that it can overcome tremendous obstacles and lead to opportunities for countless people. My greatest fear as an artist is to languish in obscurity and die full of stories which no-one besides my closest friends ever had a chance to read, and ideas which I failed to manifest due to lack of workspace & materials. Removing that roadblock for someone else is therapeutic. Is this project a one-time event? If the project is ongoing how will you maintain it? No. And it is potentially a model to use in other communities. As long as there is interest in fostering artists and entrepreneurs, this idea should be able to perpetuate itself. Revenue should be generated through sales of art online and at SAGC events. What will the newspaper headline say at the conclusion of your project? Art is Dead (sorry bad joke, the project has no foreseeable end.) Reply, Reply All or Forward | More
