im sharing a comment of rusty nolans .: Rusty Nolan Its fear Timmy. 50 or so years ago, longhouse people were not many. They were made fun of and shunned by our own people. Beat up in schools and bullied everyday for being, looking, and speaking mohawk. Long ago there were like 5 longhouse families in town ...... FIVE. How many are there now? How many kids get bullied in school for looking mohawk or speaking it?? NONE. Why? Well lets see, if our identities were in jeopardy back then, but yet here we are. We are now stronger than 5 families and we have THREE longhouses insteads of 1. Our children are learning the language and culture. They are asking questions, they are planting food, and learning their songs. Amazing times. But then you have people in fear of losing our ways pop up and throw a wrench in the middle. Because of FEAR. Fear of losing who we are. Well to me, when I look at history I see that as nonsense. There is nothing to fear but fear itself. Stop living in a world where you think everyone is out to get you and just start living. Nobody can take away who you are but yourself. By not living your life surrounded by family and peace nothing will go wrong. Thats the natural cycle. So stop looking in other peoples yards and worry about yourself and what you bring to the table. I bring love and acceptance for all but a heavy fist for justice. If we didnt want non natives living with us ..... why are we surrounded by them. Time for change ....... yes.
