(lengthy post time, no tl;dr so keep scrolling if youre uninterested) Interning with Gallup was (is... only 4 weeks in) the push I needed to get fully interested in my career choice. Im obsessed with programming right now. I spend about 5 hours/day coding in the workplace (between meetings and whatnot) and I come home to work on open-source and individual projects. Completing these projects, or even just portions of them, is so incredibly rewarding. But Software Development is such a small portion of the internship. The way the company is structured is fascinating as well. The first week here, I was (and continue to be) dumbfounded by the positive attitudes of everyone. Gallup pressures me to focus on many important aspects of life, inside and outside of the workplace. Social, financial, and physical wellbeing, to name a few. They consistently bring up things Ive never thought about or heard of; from specific Java web frameworks to sitting down and teaching me the importance of a worthwhile spending plan. Although I suppose this may come as no surprise from an internship with a management consulting company. A true, all-encompassing learning experience. Just trying to soak up as much as I can. Staying stoked for the coming weeks. Also; no, Jim Collison did not pay me to say this.
