on Nov. 16, 1989 (25 years ago today) six Jesuit scholars/priests, their housekeeper and her daughter were targeted and killed in their residence on the campus of the University of Central America (UCA). Their theological work (Liberation Theology) and commitment to the poor of the country led to this assault by members of the Salvadoran Army - men who were trained in counter-insurgency tactics at the U.S. School of the Americas. I (Peter B) went on a pilgrimage for priests and deacons to the various sites of the martyrs in El Salvador and Guatemala and took these pictures - the city of San Salvador seen from the mountains nearby, the garden where the husband and father of the slain women planted these rose bushes where their bodies were found, and the plaque outside the door of the residence where they were killed. Its a lesson that we cannot seem to learn - you dont arm and train the hyper-partisan crazies of other countries to fight some other group that we perceive to be common enemies. The enemy of my enemy is my friend isnt true and will come back to bite you in the end.
