the final match of Third Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Tournament for Deaf, Green Club defeated Red Club by 22 runs here at Kashmir University ground on Saturday. Earlier Red Club won the toss and decided to field first. In the sixteen over match, Green Club came out all blazing with their openers Muzaffar Shakeel, who is also the captain of the team, and Khalid Mehraj (Vice-Captain), smashed 18 run in the first over only. However, the captain lost his cool and gave away his wicket in the second over only. Then came Umar Ashraf, who played a brilliant knock of 51 runs, which included four 4s as well. Ashraf maintained his calm throughout his innings to ensure that his team gets a decent total to defend. Ashraf has been the consistent performer for his team by scoring heavily throughout the series. While he was displaying his class, Umar on the other end was playing as sheet anchor’s role. Though his figures will read eight runs only to his credit, but the reality is, he was he who gave the much needed support to Ashraf to score on the other end. However, he eventually went out in ninth over, when he was brilliantly caught by Red Club’s Syed Younis. Finally Green club managed to score 117 in their allotted 16 overs. Chasing a target of 118, Red Club did not had a good start. The team had no answer to Umar Ashraf’s bowling either, who took three wickets in allotted four over conceding only 14 runs. In pursuit to save their wickets, the team went into their shell and did not score many in their overs. For Red Club, it was only Umar Majid Wani who scored 35 unbeatable runs. However, the defensive approach adapted by the team resulted in their downfall. In the end the team only managed to score 95 for the loss of six wickets in the allotted 16 overs. Umar Ashraf for his brilliant fifty and all round performance was declared both man and the man and man of the series. Imran Fayaz catch was adjudged as the best catch of the match and he was also declared as the best fielder of the match. At the end both the teams received winning and runner up trophies from Director of Sports Physical Education Bashir Ahmad Khan. Among the others present included President J&K CAD IA Drabu, Vice President J&KCAD Majid Amin, General Secretary J&KCAD Imran Khan. The tournament was organized by Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Assocation of the Deaf.
