the light reached through the branches dappling the road with little painted shadows a secret message just for me from the One above the One who made it all was drawing designs on the forest floor to help me pass the time as my grandpa and i drove his two-ton truck down yet another shortcut on the way to yet another small town that lay in the distance somewhere up ahead along a dusty road lined with trees that stood guard over us on our journeys but mostly all i could think of was the ice chest filled with soda that waited in the old general store in the town up ahead a grape nehi with little ice chips floating inside a frosty bottle there was absolutely nothin better on a hot summer day ~ excerpt from THE GRANDPA RULES by Michael Traveler
