the tampa bay rays finished off a 3 game series with a 4-3 victory over the san fran giants today, due mostly to their pitching, as the offense has still been struggling a little but came thru with enough runs to secure a 4-3 win.the offense could only come up with 6 hits, but 1 of them was a 2 run bomb by rookie wil myers.sam fuld came through with a clutch rbi single in the 6th inning to lock up the victory.....in the 2nd game of the series david price went 9 innings, with 0 walks but came up with no decision as again wil myers comes thru with a no-out bases loaded single to win the game 2-1 in the 10th. Fernando Rodney recorded his 4th win of the year....in Fridays 4-1 loss the rays struck out 11 times, which was their 3rd double figure strikeout game in a row as they left 25 men on base that game, going 2-10 with runners in scoring position.chris archer took his 1st loss in over a month as he was 4-0 for july...sunday evan longoria broke his 0 -19 hitting slump with a rbi single in the 5th to tie the game at 3. he also ended a 8 game streak of striking out 2 times or more a game.longo who has been having his problems at the plate made a good natured tip of the hat to the fans after his 1st at bat when he hit a sharp line drive to left, which was caught ,and he received a round of applause from the sold out crowd.....speaking of large crowds, the rays -giants game drew 3 of the best crowds of the year, with 20,000, 32,000 and the sellout of 34,000 on sunday. a good showing of support by the locals to their team who just came home from a 8-2 road trip.....the rays have not been making productive outs lately, which means they are not moving runners up a base with fly balls or groundouts.gotta get back to that happening more often as the season winds down.......there are 8 weeks from today til the end of the regular season.......the rays defense has been playing well, incuding the pitchers as they continue to make big outs in the run scarce games........either for the good or the bad, I hate 1st pitch swings by a rays batter, especially their 1st time up.i believe you should get a look first at what your up against, but then again , I am just stating my own opinion.........alex cobb threw 56 pitches, 33 of them strikes in a 5 inning game for the class A stonecrabs of port charlotte, matt moore and reliever jesse crain also played catch over the weekend.cobb and moore both are looking to come off the DL by august 13th, the rays next homestand that starts with seattle....have you ever listened to david price as he releases a pitch with a loud grunt.sounds like a tennis player serving up a 100 mph-er.....the rays are now 12- 3 against the NL, and take that record on the road to Arizona Tuesday night for a 9 pm start of a 2 game series, followed by 3 in LA against the NL dodgers.jeremy hellickson (10-4) gets the ball...................Go rays..............
