this will be part one of two posted today on how to build a grandmaster, with additional parts to follow another day. this first part deals building your light table and drawing a design on your graph paper (or other surface). first is marking your spar to center. this one is 3mm graphite. the cross spar is then bowed and taped to the graph paper, centered from that mark. its then taped into place and marked with a pencil on the paper. when removed, the lines are checked for accuracy and the spine drawn in, this one is about 83% span. leading and trailing edges are then marked in with the pencil, then the tape marks for the clear tape bridle re-enforcement patches. then the optional tail is drawn in. the drawing and graph paper is then taped to the safety glass window, and a sheet of storm window plexi glass is added to form a sandwich, all taped into place. some minimum on forming bamboo into spines (but spruce or douglas fir works well), but you can find information anywhere on forming bamboo. the light table is then lofted to place on wood stands and a light placed behind the table (sometimes optional). the table is now ready for the next part, step 2.
