They must show self-confidence, initiative and leadership skills. If he/she wants to be outstanding he/she must also use imagination, enthusiasm, self-control, pleasing personality, accurate thinking, concentration, and tolerance. Many dont reach that level because they have not studied leadership. Every supervisor or manager is not necessarily a good leader. Pity the person who works for the fool. Leadership is vital to every organization; from the small business to the major corporation. If you employ people you are responsible for them. If you want to win the economic battle you must manage and lead all your assets and people are your greatest asset and your greatest challenge. I have seen to many say, “I just need a little more time before I get another job, or I retire, but they never make it. Stress is a silent killer and you dont know how much time you have especially in this crazy world we live in today. If you dont have an exit plan, you must stay and serve your time. Leaders must hold themselves to a higher standard. They can make excuses for the shortcomings of others, but if they wish to lead others, they must hold themselves to strict accountability. Self-sacrifice is essential to leadership. You must give of yourself to lead, so others will follow your example. As a former military officer we were trained to accomplish the mission and take care of our men. A good leader makes sure his men have something to eat before he eats. They must have a place to bed down before he retires for the night. He makes sure that they conserve their strength by not demanding needless or useless labor tasks. I can still remember those early jobs I had before I went into the service that when the boss came around you had to look busy. Bet that is still the case. When you take care of your people they will take care of you. You breath life into a mere highly trained fighting machine. You create a soul into your organization that will cause them to do the most extraordinary things and to act as a unit. We call it esprit. Study men and realize that men are not all alike. Most need different motivation but you must be fair to all. Personal dignity, courage, and integrity come with the job. Because of the nature of the business decisions must be made in short order sometimes. Leaders must calmly give orders to get the job done. Therefore leaders should be prepared and look at contingencies before hand. Quick reasoning is based on good training. When you have a definite chief aim, it is active and not passive. It will never be more than a mere wish unless you become a person of initiative and aggressively and persistently pursue that aim until it has been achieved. Form the habit of pursuit until you reach your goal, whether it requires one year or twenty years. It took me, ten years to get my credentials but between high school and college was a couple of years of hard manual labor on the assembly line before automation and three years in the military. The Air Force and the GI Bill paid the way and I did the work. I recently wrote a comment in the school on-line newsletter that maybe kids need to work a little before they go straight to college. Students that start but dont finish pay a heavy price. They know they didnt finish what they started and that student loan does not go away. I paid off what I owned from being a Army Officer. I wonder if someone approached me about an on-line opportunity that was easy and inexpensive to start if I would have jumped on it?
