মনস্যান্টোর পিআর মার্ক লাইনাস কে এখন কি বলা যাবে? এই কথিত সাংবাদিক এর মিথ্যাচারের নমুনা দেখে পশ্চিমা সাংবাদিকদের কর্পোরেট দালালি কত ভয়ংকর তা বুঝা যায়। তার সাথে বিভিন্ন ব্লগে অনেক বিতর্ক এর পরও সে বিটি বেগুনের মালিকানা নিয়ে লাগাতার মিথ্যাচার করেই যাচ্ছে। নতুন করে মার্ক আবার তার ব্লগে ঘোষণা দিল বাংলাদেশের বিটি বেগুনের প্রকল্পে নাকি মনস্যান্টো জড়িত না, এটার মালিক নাকি বাংলাদেশের বারি এবং বারিই নাকি বীজ বিতরণ করছে Syeda Rizwana Hasan, chief executive of the Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association, another anti-GMO group, claimed incorrectly that “the [Bangladesh] government has appeared as a service provider of Monsanto and Mahyco” in releasing Bt brinjal. This claim is a constant feature of anti-GMO rhetoric, despite it being made clear on numerous occasions that Bt brinjal released in Bangladesh is owned and distributed by the public-sector Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, with no involvement from Monsanto. bteggplant.wordpress/home/press-releases/ বিটি প্রযুক্তি এবং এর মালিকানা বিষয়ে অজ্ঞতা কোন পর্যায়ে হলে মার্ক এসব বানানো গল্প লিখেতে পারেন! ২০০৫ সালের ১৪ মার্চ বাংলাদেশ কৃষি গবেষণা ইনস্টিটিউট (বারি), মার্কিন বহুজাতিক বীজ কোম্পানি মনসান্তো পক্ষে ভারতীয় কোম্পানি মহারাষ্ট্র হাইব্রিড সিড কোম্পানি লিমিটেড (মাহিকো) ও ভারতীয় কোম্পানি সাতগুরু ম্যানেজমেন্ট কনসালট্যান্ট প্রাইভেট লিমিটেডের মধ্যে ত্রিপক্ষীয় যে সাব-লাইসেন্স চুক্তি স্বাক্ষরিত হয়, তাতে সুস্পষ্টভাবে লেখা আছে এ বিটি বেগুনের বীজের মেধাস্বত্ব মনসান্তো-মাহিকো কোম্পানির (ধারা ১.১৯) এবং তা বাংলাদেশের বারিকে কিনে নিতে হবে কোম্পানি থেকেই (ধারা ১.৬)। 1.19 Monsanto/MHSCL IP Rights shall mean all intellectual property rights that Monsanto or MHSCL owns or controls which will be infringed by making, using or selling Licensed Domestic Eggplant Products containing MHSCL Technology or Monsanto Technologty (i.e. the B.t. Gene). Gene and/or MHSCL Technology against unauthorized reproduction; and ii) implementation in the Territory of legislation affording protection for patented technology incorporated in living organisms.’ অর্থাত্ বিটি বেগুন বীজের ও প্রযুক্তির বাণিজ্যিক ও মেধাস্বত্ব অধিকারের সংরক্ষণ লঙ্ঘিত হলে কোম্পানি এ চুক্তি বাতিলের অধিকার রাখে! চুক্তির এসব ধারা অনুযায়ী প্রমাণিত হচ্ছে বাংলাদেশের বেগুন বীজের মালিকানা চলে যাবে মার্কিন-ভারতীয় কোম্পানি মনসান্তো-মাহিকোর কাছেই। এটা বায়োপাইরেসি ছাড়া আর কিছুই নয়। গেটকো এগ্রো ভিশন লিমিটেড এবং সুপ্রিম সিড কোম্পানি লিমিটেড এরই মধ্যে বিটি বেগুন বীজ উত্পাদন ও বাজারজাতকরণের জন্য আবেদন করে রেখেছে বারির কাছে। দেশী-বিদেশী কোম্পানির মুনাফা লাভের বলি হবে এ দেশের নিজস্ব বেগুন জাত। বিটি বেগুন প্রকল্পের চুক্তি থেকে প্রমাণ দেয়ার পরও মার্ক এর মত সাংবাদিক যখন মিথ্যাচার করে বেড়ায় তখন এসব বায়ো-সন্ত্রাসীদের প্রতিরোধ জরুরী হয়ে দাঁড়ায়।
