‘’WHAT’S IN IT FOR US’’ WIN TV ROCKHAMPTON NEWS The recent announced approval of the Carmicael Mine in the Galilee Basin sent waves of hope for job opportunities for men and women and coal industry contractors in Central and Northern Queensland. Today i spoke to Win TV raising my concerns about just what we could expect to get out of this huge mine development and the building of the coal haulage rail corridor. It is not unreasonable to ask stakeholders questions, we need more details about economic benefits for our population and industry sectors. We already know that a South Korean company Pasco Pty Ltd will be building the rail corridor – that, the company is most likely to borrow around $2 billion project funding from the Korean Export /Import Bank which has a history of attaching conditions to loans that require Korean workers and Korean suppliers to be a beneficiary. With that in mind we need to be told who will supply the 770 klms of rail, the 450 thousand concrete sleepers. Will these materials be shipped into Queensland. We should be told now what opportunities will there be for Queensland contractor and sub – contractor companies and their employees. How much in Australian taxpayer dollars will be on the table to assist Pasco and Adani in the construction – development and productive stages of these two projects. What subsidies, tax concessions reduced royalties have been committed by our Governments. What infrastructure funding assistance has been signed off on. As a community we must be more demanding ,call for greater transparency and accountability so that we know what deals our Governments are making with the Adani’s of this world. More importantly we need to know WHAT’S IN IT FOR US. The Natural Resources of this State and Nation belongs to the people who expect Government to maximise returns to them through jobs small and big business as well as revenue to Governments for expenditure on Health Education Roads etc. Our regions are struggling and i will advocate in the strongest possible language that no entity has the right to sign away Australians jobs and or reduce cash flows into local and regional economies.
