1-) The fascist, far-right Front National unequivocally wins national elections in France; 2-) The US Republican party is now indistinguishable from the also-Fascist Tea Party wing of the American right, which is about to gain control of the US House and Senate later this year; 3-) Racist and fascist rhetoric is rapidly returning to the political discourse of virtually every country in the world, including Brazil and South America, once the darlings of the Global left; And yet, many journalists, intellectuals and politicians insist on calling this fascist resurgence an accident, or just a reaction to the status quo. Its amazing -- and worrisome. I think its denial 101. Its also amazing to see so many of my friends suggest that Hillary Clinton (more of the same), or more neoliberal policies (deregulation, austerity ...), or more narrow, identity-based political projects/demands, so often deprived of broader (universal?) social anchors, can reverse this trend. I dont think they can (and yes, Clinton will likely lose in 2016). I think most of us have to play this (i.e. the right turn) down because we cant give up of our old, inefficient ways of existing as social beings, or our perceived position of privilege in a political hierarchy thats quickly deteriorating, no longer working, or even making sense.
