1.10.14 Venice Arrived to rain and umbrellas! Paolo the quiet one and Ricardo the chatty one met us at the Rialto bridge. People everywhere but soo exciting the craziness of this city! We charged off through the alleyways following Paolo amongst the people and the umbrellas. Ricardo chatting away to the kids behind me and me in concentration nervous about slipping over in my handrails on the wet cobblestones. We twisted and turned through alleys and courtyards until we were in a quieter area and arrived at our place. They lived 2 mins walk away. No one lives on the ground floors anymore in Venice so we entered a foyer on the ground floor and our apartment which did not disappoint was the next floor up. This was Maias birthday present so she got the room with the double bed. Poor Mason had taken a turn for the worst and was quite ill so my next job was to find some panadolbto bring his temp down but of course it was siesta time! Nothing opened again till 3 so I tucked him up and Msia and I went for a walk and had lunch in a gorgeous trattoria recommend to us by the boys. We returned, fixed Mase up and heading off to San Marco square. We never realised how lucky we were to see it in the early evening without the tourists. Thats what I learnt about Venice. See it I n the morning or the evening thats when its at its best. You see the real city then. Beautiful
