10.12.14 Life in our Families No one is here by accident. Everyone has a father and a mother. We must remember that family was God’s idea. Yet, in our world today, the emphasis is placed on independence, our completeness, our ability to rise above on our own. We live in a culture that isolates us and reassures us that we are complete, lacking nothing. Yet, in our hearts and families we may still feel empty and uncertain about our lives and our relationships. Be reassured today that there is more life for you! I encourage you to look forward not backward. You see, there is always more life available, more than what you are currently experiencing. Life is more than physical breathing. Are you looking at the life that you already have, or, are you looking at the life that God has to offer? Jesus stated in Matthew 18:8, It is better to enter into life lame or maimed rather than [remaining whole] and be cast into the everlasting fire. This is not saying that God hates you if you make a mistake and dooms you to a life of misery sending you to hell. No, no, no! There are ‘issues’ in our lives and family which prevent us and hold us back. God loves us and has the specific answers we need to face every issue and win. He’s telling us that the answers we need to “fix” our hearts and our families will not be found in holding on to the problem. Letting go of ‘comfortable’ and ‘convenient’ gives us the opportunity to hold onto something new, the true source of life which God desires to give! Proverbs 18:21 declares a secret: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” Sarcasm, criticism, verbal abuse, shame, and anger all manifest themselves as negative forces that kill relationships and remove life from us. But as easy as words can kill, they can also bring life. The words of our mouths can encourage, heal, bless, and communicate love and affection. The choice is ours, moment by moment. Your mouth can remove the things holding you back, and your mouth can help you enter into life. Cut off old ways of speaking and speak life today
