12/25... The Big Day Peace be with us ☮ In India, December 25th is most often referred to as The Big Day, embracing everybody in celebration. I love this spirit. Hear the story at the link below. In contrast, driving through the South last night, and this morning, finding new radio stations as old ones crackled out of range, I was bombarded with a plea to remember the real reason for the season. I like to think that the reason for the season is to exchange kindnesses, before heading into the coldest, and most challenging parts of the winter season in the Northern hemisphere, where folks have been celebrating this time of year for many thousands of years. Peace with nature ☮ An hour ago, driving into Bowie, MD, where Im meeting a friend in two hours, before we take Manhattan, I saw a cluster of what appeared to be at least three families, dressed in Christmas and Seasonal Sweaters, having fun laughing and doing street trash pickup. There fun and pack-dynamic suggest to me this has been a tradition for more than a couple years. I dont know. I know I was heartened to see and feel what appears to me as a genuine expression of spreading good will and cheer. Peace requires humility, and my tendency towards righteousness often separates me from inner peace. Pardon me for being SNARKY, and NPR was really stirring up my inner righteousness this morning, reporting on three new species of deep-water fish. Pardon me, it appears to me as our taxonomy of animals has expanded by three, these species were existing before humans got to label them last week. These fish werent waiting around for humans to discover them, just as Nature isnt waiting around for humans to learn respect for her. npr.org/2012/12/25/168014344/christmas-in-india
