12 Years a Slave....what a movie. The sheer brutality that African Americans suffered at the hands of slave masters was unprecedented. You will feel it in your bones every time the whip came down or the shame of being treated like cattle when being sold. And to hear the N word being used over and over again by their white masters made me loathe and despise the use of the word even more. We as a people need to STOP using it. End of STORY! It is and always will be a degrading word. To see a man of color know more than his white masters makes you see how society in its own way has not changed that much in this endeavor. How he had to conform and hide his true nature of his ability is again true today. Because we as African Americans have been so stereotyped that we have to maintain and conform in the white corporate world or be called out for not fitting in. This movie really touched me and I hope their will be a day when change has really and truly been made and felt by all.
