13! I was given the number 13 by Drago. Whew... Gotta come up with 13 things about myself. If you like this Ill give you a number. Here goes... 1. In high school I was very shy but my friend convinced me to join choir. I passed the first semester with a letter grade of B and when I confessed to my friend that I never once used my voice and only lip synched to all of the songs she threatened to tell on me. So the rest of the school year I sang with my voice and ended up getting a C or a C-. Geez. However, even though I am deaf, I am pretty sure that I am the ONLY student who still remembers the lyrics to most of the non-English African songs. Wenyu yabba layka, ooh yabba layka. Qway zan tahba stimula stippoo may Zimbabwehhhh. Since then, I have sworn off singing! ;) 2. I miss my old self. The soul I used to be before I got married and endured an abusive chapter in my life. The carefree, happy, trusting and optimistic old me that looked forward to a bright future is a changed soul now. Not quite what I dreamed for myself but I wouldnt trade in the resourceful, more cautious, more compassionate and empathetic self I am for anything. Im a lot stronger than I ever thought I would be. I truly am a survivor. 3. I love meeting new people. I have met so many interesting and amazing people that sometimes others would be shocked at how we met. On Craigslist, on the street, in a store, in a class I was taking, through a mutual friend, on Facebook, etc.. I think meeting all kinds of people has truly enriched my life. I certainly appreciate it as I can learn from someone and take it to apply to my own life. 4. I really enjoy music. Not Justin Bieber/Miley Cyrus crap, but the good stuff from the 70s and 80s and some 90s tunes. I also love to sign and interpret the music if I know the lyrics. NO. I refuse to go online and post videos of myself signing to music. Forget it. Not gonna happen! 5. I used to write in a diary but I stopped ever since I came home from school and walked in on my brother reading my diary out loud to my sister in a voice that was probably loud enough for my parents to hear over in the next room. I was maybe 13 or 14. Ill never write another one again as long as I live. The betrayal was too much. 6. Ive had a Botox injection before. When I was 15 years old I had a surgical procedure that consisted of cutting the eyeball open a bit and using a needle, the Botox was injected into the muscle of the eye. When I woke up they were still sewing my eyeball shut so I had to endure an Egyptian-style level of excruciating pain whenever the needle went into my eyeball and then back out again. The worst was when the sutures were tugged at to get that tightness going. Felt like someone was pulling my brains out through my eyeball, hence Egyptian-style. 7. A few years ago I found out I have a deaf great grandmother and a deaf great uncle. Proud to say I have deaf genes after all. :) 8. I once got Shannon Kapp and myself kicked out of American History (or whatever) class at Gallaudet in 96. I swear we didnt do anything! All I ever did was look up from my book, glanced over at Shannon and next thing you know I was giggling and when Shannon started to giggle, I completely lost it and started laughing my face off. I started crying with laughter once the teacher noticed and he got so mad at us for disrupting the class and so, needless to say we got kicked out. To this day I can promise you absolutely nothing was funny and it was just a serious case of laughing gas. I occasionally get the laughing gas fits still. They are highly recommended, trust me. ;) 9. I love having my hair played with. Just a nice tickle-y sensation thats soothing and relaxing. I think I need more hair stylist friends. :) 10. I was adopted. Twice. When my Mom had me she kept me and was a single mother until she met Dad. After they were married he adopted me as his own daughter but... According to the law back then, this meant that he would then become my sole Guardian so Mom also had to adopt me back so as to keep guardianship of me, too. 11. The beach is my absolute favorite place to be. The waves along the shore, the horizon in the distance, the soft sand between my toes, watching Freddy be deliriously happy as he races along to his content while refusing to dip a paw in the water (lol) is all so very comforting to me. Im always content when Im ready to head back home. 12. My favorite place to read a book is in bed. I used to be a total bookworm until I had surgery that kind of ruined my eyes for me. Cant really wear glasses if youre laying down on your side and the pillow smushes your glasses into your temple where its hard to even see the pages properly. Back then I would literally read a book a day. Love going to the library on a Friday afternoon and taking out 10 books and then spending the whole weekend reading all of them. 13. I. Am. Canadian.
