17 weeks of intense training go into making every Irish Army - TopicsExpress

17 weeks of intense training go into making every Irish Army soldier. Every day of training presents a new challenge as the Recruit becomes skilled in foot and arms drill, marksmanship, fieldcraft and military tactics. Last Thursday the 27th of March, 36 young men and women of 2 Artillery Regiment held their Passing Out Ceremony in Custume Barracks, Athlone. In front of an audience of family and friends the newly qualified soldiers gave a display of foot and arms drill and were formally welcomed into the wider Defence Forces family. The platoon follow in the traditions of Gunner James Magee, who in Ballinamuck in 1798, embodied the characteristics of peer leadership, courage, loyalty, devotion to duty, resilience and resourcefulness in keeping the guns firing. These are the virtues adopted and espoused by the 2 Artillery Regiment. We congratulate the soldiers and their instructors and wish them all the best for the rest of their careers.
