18th Week Tuesday Transfiguration Luke 9:28-36 WHO IS JESUS FOR YOU? When Jesus asked his disciples who the people were saying he was, the disciples said they had heard different answers from the crowds. Some said John risen from the dead after Herod had killed him; others said Elijah also resurrected, or one of the prophets of old. Then Jesus asked the big question: : “But who do YOU say I am?” Peter answered for all saying: “You are the Messiah, the Christ,” that is, the Savior and Liberator of Israel. It was an exciting moment for all of them. They saw themselves leading the victory parade. But when Jesus told them that they had it all wrong, and that he would be tortured by the religious leaders and killed before their very eyes, excitement turned to shock. It was in this moment of depression that Jesus took Peter, James and John to an unidentified high mountain to show them that the shocking truth he had revealed was worth believing and dying for. “This is my chosen Son; listen to him.” Still it was not until after the Ascension that Peter could write: “We possess the prophetic message that is altogether reliable. You will do well to be attentive to it, as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. 2Pt 1:19 Who is Jesus for you? More importantly: Do you live what you believe?
