19 September 2013: SFP assist the villagers of Makhoul in the Jordan Valley to rebuild their village after demolition by the Israel Army Early on Thursday morning a group of Palestinians working with the Solidarity Movement For Free Palestine and different Palestinian associations, went to the village of Makhoul in the Jordan Valley to assist villagers in their rebuilding. Makhoul village was demolished by the Israel Army in the early hours of Monday 16 September 2013. SFP activists had attended the village shortly after the Army completed their act of terrorism, destroying the whole village and causing 20 families to become homeless. Activists then organised with villagers to return and help them rebuild their village in defiance of the attempted ethnic cleansing of their land. On Wednesday 18 September the Red Cross attended the village to provide the villagers with temporary tents. The Army immediately destroyed the structures and stole the tents, telling the people to leave through fear of arrest. SFP activists were able to prepare the land after the destruction and help villagers build 5 tents. Three Army jeeps observed but did not approach, and activists were successful in their act of solidarity and steadfastness in the face of ethnic cleansing. This successful action will be some comfort to villagers that are facing a Winter with potentially no shelter from the weather. The United Nations were also present and had brought the villagers flour. The villagers, in an act of strength and defiance, refused the flour, saying they wanted their village back and their own ability to sustain themselves, not aid. They wished to send a message to the international community to support their steadfastness, not through aid, but by pressuring the illegal occupation to stop ethnic cleansing. Makhoul village and the whole Jordan Valley is designated Area C after the failed Oslo Accords. This gives the Israeli Army free reign of terror over residents. Remote villages such as Makhoul have little support and SFP seeks to bring Palestinians from across historical Palestine to support one another in the face of the illegal occupation, ethnic cleanisng and theif of their land.
